The End of the World

Journal Entry: Sun May 3, 2009, 4:25 PM

I met a woman not so long ago. She was a mature lady, worn and lined more from a hard life than from age.

She was mopping the floor of a pubic bathroom, and while she mopped, she sang with the most heart-breakingly beautiful voice I have ever heard, and I am yet to hear any more beautiful as of yet.

I listened in amazement, and I thanked her as I left. I didn't have the right words to show my appreciation for her incredible and touching voice, but now I am writing this as a tribute to her. Not that she will ever read it, that is.

I tracked down the lyrics to the song she sang, and this is what I found:

Nina Gordon - The End Of The World

Why does the sun go on shining?
Why does the sea rush to shore?
Don't they know it's the end of the world
If you don't love me anymore?
Why do the birds go on singing?
Why do the stars glow above?
Don't they know it's the end of the world?
It ended when I lost your love.
I wake up in the morning and I wonder
Why everything is the same as it was.
And I can't understand,
No I can't understand
Why life goes on the way it does.
Why does my heart go on beating?
Why do these eyes of mine cry?
Don't they know it's the end of the world?
It ended when we said goodbye.
I wake up in the morning and I wonder
Why everything is the same as it was.
Cuz I can't understand,
No I can't understand
Why life goes on the way it does.
Tell me why does my heart go on beating?
And why do these eyes of mine cry?
Don't they know it's the end of the world?
It ended when we said goodbye.
